ISEE Reading Comprehension Prep
Everything Made Easier

Reading comprehension and vocabulary are two of the most important skills you can develop as a student. These skills will help you succeed on standardized tests, college entrance exams, and in your academic career. During the ISEE, the Reading Comprehension exam plays a significant role in your score. Therefore, finding the right tutor to help you prepare for this section of the test is essential. Luckily, Aisha’s ISEE Tutors is here!
About
ISEE Reading Comprehension

On the ISEE Reading Comprehension section, you’ll see reading passages which are then followed by questions. On the ISEE Lower Level, there are five passages, each with five questions. There are six sections on the ISEE Middle Level and ISEE Upper Level, each followed by six questions. Many students may not have enough time to finish the ISEE Reading Comprehension section in its entirety.
As such, it’s crucial to determine what pace works best for you (with the help of a private tutor). It’s important not to speed through this part because it could lead to careless errors and a lower score. However, you also don’t want to spend too much time on any one question. Time management is essential when it comes to taking the ISEE Reading Comprehension section.

ISEE
Reading Comprehension Questions

Throughout the exam, there are six types of questions you’ll see:
1. Main Idea
Questions
These questions ask about the central idea or theme of the passage. You’ll be given a sentence or two from the passage and will need to choose the best answer that describes the main point.
2. Supporting Ideas
Questions
These questions test the student’s ability to distinguish distinct concepts in the text that support the primary idea or another important notion.
3. Inference
Questions
These questions require the test taker to draw a conclusion based on information not explicitly given in the text. In such questions, students may be asked to examine and understand the material, compare and contrast ideas, and/or anticipate outcomes or subsequent occurrences.
4. Vocabulary
These questions require students to define certain words based on their context and usage of the text.
5. Organizational/ Logic
Students must determine the relationship, structure, pattern, summary, or sequence of the text in order to answer these types of questions. Students are also expected to recognize key elements of several literary genres, such as narrative, instructional, and informational.
6. Tone/ Style/ Figurative Language
These kinds of questions assess the student’s understanding of point of view, tone, mood, and figurative language (irony, simile, images, personification, and metaphor.)

Expert Tips for
ISEE Reading Comprehension

To ace a test, you first need to know the basic concepts that will be covered. The ISEE Reading Comprehension section is no different. In order to help you prepare, we’ve outlined some of the most essential tips to keep in mind when taking or preparing for the test:
Make sure you understand the questions before answering them. If you are unsure of what a question is asking, try to paraphrase it in your own words. This will help you better understand the question and make sure you are answering it correctly.
Although keeping an eye on the time is important, it’s never good to rush when answering a question. You need to be sure you are reading and understanding the question correctly in order to answer it accurately.
If you don’t know an answer, try to eliminate as many of the choices as possible. This will help you reduce your chances of getting the question wrong.
Write down notes while you read the passage, such as the primary point of each paragraph. When you’ve finished reading it, determine what the passage is about and what the text’s major goal is. This will assist you in responding to the questions that follow the passage.

An Approach that Addresses
Your Child’s Specific Needs

Differentiated Instruction is a term used to describe a curriculum tailored to meet each student’s particular requirements. We’re a leader in differentiated Instruction, and we’ve designed our programs to provide each student a unique learning path. This implies that your child’s training will be solely focused on the areas where he or she requires the greatest assistance. This is accomplished in three ways:

One on One
Tutoring
A private ISEE instructor can concentrate on your child’s individual strengths and weaknesses, moving through academic areas and strategies at their own pace. Our tutor is ideally positioned to detect and fix weak points since one on one tutoring provides a secure setting for your child to ask questions and acknowledge when he or she is confused.

ISEE
Practice Tests
Your child will take an initial Practice ISEE test before meeting with our tutor. This establishes a baseline for the program and provides us with an understanding of your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Your child will take at least 2 more full-length ISEE practice exams during the duration of the program, and our tutor will use the results to assess progress and continue to personalize the curriculum to your child’s individual requirements.

Personalized
Curriculum & Homework
Our ISEE curriculum was created from the ground up with the purpose of providing a program that is tailored to the one-on-one tutoring environment. Similarly, because homework is an integral part of exam preparation, one of our tutor’s prominent roles is to evaluate and offer specific homework. The more you practice, the higher your results will be, especially if that practice is targeted to your child’s immediate academic needs.
Don’t
Miss the Chance

If you want your child’s ISEE scores to soar, our tutoring program is the perfect solution. We have an amazing group of experienced and compassionate teachers who are devoted to helping students get into their dream schools. With us, you can rest assured that your child will be in good hands, getting the most out of his or her tutoring experience.
